Fashion and textile design undergraduates from four institutions across Ireland came together at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin on 23rd June, for the Irish heat of the SDC International Design Competition 2017. The students were competing to win a place at the Grand Final which takes place in November in Sri Lanka.
The brief was to ‘explore and demonstrate the creative, imaginative, technical and original use of colour in either fashion or textiles suitable for a circular economy’.
Regular readers of this blog will be familiar with SDC’s Malcolm the Weaver project includes the books Weaver of a Life in Colour and The Rainbow that Mixed Colours and The Moon that Shone Dark. The project has had a very busy and successful few months. Written by SDC member Malcolm Campbell CCol FSDC and published by the SDC, the books have been kindly sponsored by organisations including The Cotton Industry War Memorial Trust, Coates Foundation, PLC, VP PLC and Hainsworths. This has seen over 1,000 books going directly to schools, encouraging young readers to start their colour education.
