Florence Clarke, a second year student of Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Leeds Arts University entered the North of England heat of the SDC International Design Competition earlier this year which led to a day placement at Sharps Fabric Printers. Fashion and textile design undergraduates from four institutions across Ireland came together at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin on 23rd June, for the Irish heat of the SDC International Design Competition 2017. The students were competing to win a place at the Grand Final which takes place in November in Sri Lanka.
The brief was to ‘explore and demonstrate the creative, imaginative, technical and original use of colour in either fashion or textiles suitable for a circular economy’.
The UK final of the SDC International Design Competition 2017 takes place in York on 19th May as part of SDC’s Day of Celebration. We will be welcoming the finalists from SDC’s regions in the Midlands, London, North of England, Scotland and West of England/South Wales. The main focus for the competition is colour, and this year the students have been challenged to include the theme ‘design for a circular economy.’ We’re pleased to introduce the judges.
