Irish design students focus on colour and the circular economy

Fashion and textile design undergraduates from four institutions across Ireland came together at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin on 23rd June, for the Irish heat of the SDC International Design Competition 2017. The students were competing to win a place at the Grand Final which takes place in November in Sri Lanka.

The brief was to ‘explore and demonstrate the creative, imaginative, technical and original use of colour in either fashion or textiles suitable for a circular economy’.

Success for a student from Belfast Met

We first met Matthew Lenehan at Belfast Metropolitan College when he took part in their in-house competition, using the SDC International Design Competition brief, and where he was announced as the winner. Matthew went on to enter the Irish heat of the SDC International Design Competition. On both occasions the judges were impressed with the standard of his work. We asked him to tell us about his SDC journey so far.

Irish colour talent on show again

Students from Ireland once again demonstrated outstanding talent at the Irish heat of the SDC International Design Competition. Hosted by the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin, we welcomed students from Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, Belfast Met, University of Ulster and NCAD for a day of keynote presentations and competition judging.
