In October we attended a joint meeting of the SDC Midlands Region and Nottingham Society of Technical Dyers. The speaker for this event was Charles Ross, a visiting lecturer and specialist in performance sportswear design and sustainability.
Before stating what the lecture was about, one must comment about the excellent attendance from both societies. It was really good to see a mixture and span from students to more mature members; there was at least one young student who had travelled down from Leeds University. The allocated room for the event was overflowing.

Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones responsive to change.”
The textile industry and fashion industry are global and through online, on demand information, the SDC is ensuring these industries can be responsive to change. Embracing the concept of the ‘circular economy’ SDC EC in conjunction with Rachana Sansad School of Fashion and Textile Design, organised Innovations in Textile Technology and Fashion towards Circular Economy in Mumbai, attended by 200 delegates.
SDC EC organised a half day seminar on the topic ‘Garment processing… green economics’ in Bangalore, India.
The event was attended by more than 70 delegates from the textile industry, academic institutions and government organisations, to address issues on garment processing and ways to reduce the environmental impact of dyes and chemicals.
