Recent research has shown that a significant proportion of the textile and dyeing industry workforce have stayed on beyond their planned retirement age because of a lack of suitably qualified younger replacements. With a skills gap amongst many young people entering the industry, the Foundation Textile Coloration Certificate (FTCC) and Textile Coloration Certificate (TCC) were developed to meet the needs of industry and to help fill this gap. SDC’s innovative colour education pathway has courses suitable for those from both technical and design backgrounds.

As an educational charity the SDC offers courses and qualifications in the coloration of textiles. We’re also a global membership organisation and a centre for networking and community engagement. We work with people from technical and design backgrounds, addressing the skill gaps and training needs of young people and those already working in the textile industry. In this blog we take a look at some of the courses available.
The Textile Coloration Certificate (TCC) developed by the SDC will enter into its fourth year with a new intake of students for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the course in March 2015. The course was primarily developed for the UK dyeing and printing industry to help educate new and existing members of dyehouse staff to take on more challenging roles.
